Be Prepared as the 2017 Hurricane Season Ramps Up

Forecasters predict that this year has a “higher likelihood” of an above-normal season with a larger number of named storms than usual. Overall, the NOAA says this season could be the most active since 2010. Back in May, they predicted a 45 percent chance of an above-normal season. In their most recent statement, the odds have risen to a 60-percent chance, with 14-19 named storms and 2-5 major hurricanes.

Experts base the updated forecast on current and evolving atmospheric and oceanic conditions, along with the storm activity that has already occurred this year. So far, six named storms have developed within the Atlantic basin, and two of those (Cindy and Emily) hit the Eastern U.S. maintains two South Florida datacenters – one in Boca Raton and one in Ft.
