The Glide Foundation—GLIDE—is a beloved cultural icon and San Francisco’s leading provider of innovative social services for marginalized populations. The fifty-two year old non-profit provides an array of programs including daily free meals, housing assistance, on-site access to healthcare, crises management, substance abuse recovery, childcare, afterschool and summer programs for K-5 and a drop-in legal clinic. Building on the charitable work of the GLIDE Memorial United Methodist Church (est. 1929), the organization continues to serve its community with a visionary commitment to creating a just and loving community mobilized to alleviate suffering and break the cycles of poverty and marginalization by providing compassionate humanitarian aid.
GLIDE’s communications infrastructure is vital to its mission of serving thousands of San Francisco’s poorest residents daily. Each day GLIDE depends on its website and IT systems to inform the community of GLIDE’s social services and programs, coordinate more than eighty-five volunteers, and enable its fundraising efforts that support its $16 million annual budget. GLIDE’s infrastructure needs to be available 24×365, especially when the community needs it most.

GLIDE started out with a server room in a closet where its equipment suffered from the power and cooling limitations resulting from the building’s insufficient infrastructure. As a result of the organization’s growing technology requirements, its on-premises system began to experience power interruptions and it did not have the amount of space, cooling or other resources necessary to accommodate expansion or system upgrades.
365 Data Centers provides secure colocation space, redundant power and cooling for GLIDE’s website and infrastructure. GLIDE uses redundant circuits and load balancing to replicate its internal systems and call manager to 365’s site to support ongoing operations, communications and disaster preparedness.
365 Data Centers has delivered 100% uptime with no interruption for eight years straight, helping GLIDE avoid downtime, which could have resulted in decreased donations and fewer volunteers. 365 has saved GLIDE approximately $37,000 per year in IT costs, amounting to nearly $300,000 in operating expense savings that GLIDE could re-allocate to services and programs that directly help its clients.
